The Eurovision Song Contest 2007 is the 52nd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest that will
take place on May 10 and May 12, 2007, in Finland. The location of the contest was decided on May 20, 2006 when the Finnish
rock band Lordi won the 2006 contest in Athens, Greece. The city that the contest will be held in has not yet been confirmed,
but according Finnish national broadcasting YLE the host city will most likely be either Turku or Helsinki. Tampere, Espoo,
Lahti, Rovaniemi and Levi have also made their bids. The host city and the venue will be selected in June 2006. The budget
is estimated to be between 10 and 15 million euros.
In a press conference just before the 2006 contest, the European Broadcasting Union stated that the
qualification system will stay the same as in 2006, with fourteen countries (2006's top ten and the highest-paying four EBU
members) automatically qualifying for the final, and ten others qualifying from the semi-final. The maximum number of countries
allowed to enter the contest will remain at 40.

Possible Debutant Countries for 2007
Azerbaijan - pending the Azeri broadcaster,
AzTV, becoming an active member of the EBU this summer
Czech Republic
Georgia
Montenegro
Serbia
In April 2006, Česká Televize announced
that the Czech Republic would be entering the contest in 2007. This
will therefore be their contest debut, despite the country being eligible for a long time. The reason for their not entering
in previous years has been declared by the broadcaster as being down to financial difficulties. With Montenegro becoming independent,
both Serbia and Montenegro will be able to enter ESC 2007 separately, as the Serbian and Montenegrin television stations are
both EBU members; however, Montenegro may be barred from entering as they did not provide a full broadcast of the 2006 contest.
Possible Returning Countries for 2007
Austria - broadcast the 2006 contest
live
Hungary - pending financial status
of the Hungarian broadcaster, MTV
Luxembourg - pending Letzeburgish broadcaster
Tango TV becoming an active member of the EBU this summer (Tango TV have already voiced their wishes to return Luxembourg to the Eurovision Song Contest)
Countries that could theoretically enter in 2007 but are unlikely to do so
Algeria
Egypt
Italy
Jordan
Libya
Morocco
San Marino
Slovakia
Tunisia
Countries that are active members of the EBU, but cannot enter
Lebanon - still facing a three-year
ban for withdrawing after the deadline in the 2005 contest, meaning
they must miss the contests from 2006-2008.
